Cynthia Wiggins, LMSW
Cynthia Wiggins received her Master of Science in Social Work from Columbia University with a focus in Advanced Clinical Practice/Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Princeton University. Prior to her return to graduate school for Social Work where she was trained intensively in DBT, Cynthia applied mindfulness and person-centered principles to her work in the entertainment, journalism, and financial services fields, and has shifted these approaches to more directly impact individuals via therapy. Cynthia brings a discerning ear, a keen eye, and a delicious wit to her mindfulness framed therapeutic practice. She sees the therapist role as that of conduit and facilitator and views the therapeutic alliance, the connection formed by therapist and client, as that of fellow travelers which removes the distinction between “them” (clients) and “us” (therapists). More simply put, Cynthia believes we are all traveling through life as human beings, and no one is immune to life altering events; what we do in and around life’s inevitable shifts is what matters. She understands how it feels like to be stuck when one wants and needs to move beyond current circumstances. She sees therapy as a place to begin the work of journeying from where one is to where one would like to be.
